Small Group Instruction

 The Green House Preschool and Kindergarten's daily schedule takes into account that "small group instruction is the most rewarding part of a child's daily schedule". It gives students individual time with their teachers. The class is divided into three or four groups. These  groups are clearly divided for the purpose of quality learning. The maximum number of students to teacher during this small group instruction is six to seven students. During this time, children work with one teacher for 15-20 minutes. Three or four rotations will take place in order for each student to participate in small group instruction taught a child's happiness is essential for effective learning and development and that children should grow to love learning through their early childhood school experiences.

Honey Bees Class (Ridgefield) - In our Honey Bees Class (18 months - 2.6 years), we believe that children learn best by hands on activities. Our toddler teachers' main goal is to help children flourish through free exploration in an environment that promotes learning through play. Our bright and cheerful toddler room provides many opportunities for children to move around independently. We encourage and support cooperative play and character development. Your child will develop social and self help skills as well as participate in many activities to strengthen language, gross and fine motor skills in preperation for the next age group as guided by their teachers.
 
Tiny Seeds Class(Fort Lee) and Mighty Ducklings Class(Ridgefield)  -  In our "Tiny Seeds Class" and "Mighty Ducklings" (2.6 to 3.6  year olds) the daily routine is consistent, insistent and     persistent in helping our students understand and develop self-reliance and independence.  There are seven main areas of development essential to early childhood; Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Visual Perception, Reasoning, Receptive Language, Expressive Language, and Social/Emotional development. Note: *Flexible classes are offered 2, 3, 4 or 5 days a week  AM , PM or Full day  schedules.   

Busy Spider Class(Fort Lee) and Clicky Beetles Class(Ridgefield)  -  Our "Busy Spider Class" and "Clicky Beetles"  (3.6  to 4.6 year olds)  is especially geared to encourage successful learning through play based activities. This is achieved by providing diverse materials in the classroom that are accessible and interesting to the students. The classroom incorporates child and teacher initiated activities, along with small and large group learning activities. The classroom is organized with the child's natural development in mind. The centers in the classroom encourages each child to have fun learning through exploration and self-discovery. It is the main objective of our Busy Spider program to develop socially and emotionally well-balanced students.
Note: *Flexible classes are offered 2, 3, 4 or 5 days a week in the AM or PM or Full day  schedules. 

Friendly Fireflies' Class(Fort Lee) and Brown Bears Class(Ridgefield) -  The "Friendly Fireflies' Class" and Brown Bears Class (4 year olds)  offers a theme-base, academic, preschool-curriculum that permits each child to reach his/her potential by excelling at their own individual pace.  The use of themes and learning centers developes the student's skills and helps them flourish with minimal help from the teacher.  The children learn to work independently, with and alongside his/her peers.  The focus in the Friendly Fireflies classroom is to achieve reading and math readiness before moving on to our accredited Kindergarten.

Changing Chameleons Class(Fort Lee)  -  Our "Changing Chameleon Class" (4.5 year olds) of Pre-school/Pre-Kindergarten offers its students a program that is based on the developmental and academic needs of each child.  Our successful theme-based curriculum and learning centers uses teacher and child directed activities throughout the day. The Changing Chameleon curriculum ensures a smooth transition into their upcoming Kindergarten school year here at Green House.

Hungry Caterpillar Class(Fort Lee)  -  The "Hungry Caterpillar class" (5 year olds) is designed to prepare students with the solid academic and social foundation needed before entering Kindergarten or First Grade.  The students participate in enrichment classes in the library, gym, music and art room.  Our readiness Math and Reading curriculum is both teacher and child-directed.  Our theme base curriculum is reinforced throughout the classrooms throught the use of specific learning centers. At the heart of the Hungry Caterpillar experience is to foster a love for learning, develope individual strengths and self esteem.

Learning Centers
Learning Centers at The Green House Preschool and Kindergarten are designed to develop cooperative peer learning. We believe that children can learn and develop social skills from each other without pressure or frustration. Each of the centers in our classrooms are "theme based". These centers provide our students with many different opportunities to develop early learning skills with hands on experience.

Writing Interest Center - The "Writing Interest Center" helps our older students in providing opportunities to practive writing which is so important to preschoolers fine motor and literacy skills. Journaling, brainstorming and inventive spelling helps our students learn to communicate their ideas through drawing and promotes early attempts at writing.

Library Center - The classroom  "Library Center" has a wide variety of thematic books that are available for the students to read over and over. All books in this center are directly related to the theme that is presently being taught. Studnets will also find a "center based" story book at each of the other centers. The gGreen HOuse Preschool adn Kindergarten takes into account the development of thinking and sequencing skills through the joy of reading. Our classrooms are language rich in print and creative writing.

Listening Center - The "Listening Center" is an area where students can select stories that will help develop new vocabulary, listening, and sequencing skills. At the same, they will learn to develop cooperative learning skills with other students. This center is student directed for the sole purpose of developing a "love for reading".

Counting Center - The "Counting Center" has many functions: sorting, classifying, matching, counting, writing, tracing numerals, etc. These activities will help students to develop early math skills, number and numeral awareness.

Letter Center- The "Letter Center" helps children with their fine motor development, and also helps them to percieve visual discrimination of the shape of letters.

Manipulative Center - The "Manipulative Center" includes a large variety of table-top toys that are designed to develop fine motor skills.

Housekeeping Center - The "Housekeeping Center" is set up for students to engage in common everyday role-play, learn simple responsibilities that they can carry into an adult world, and excercise their imagination through pretend play situations in a theme based set-up.

Art Center  -  The "Art Center" gives students the opportunity to explore their imagination freely while working with various media.  The art produced at this center is process based not product.  Students take great pride and discuss what they have created without any guidance from a teacher.  Again, students are given the opportunity to be creative without any pressure or frustration.

Science Center  -  The "Science Center" provides students with an opportunity to discover. This center includes many learning experiences and various ongoing activities: class pet, plants, observing, drawing conclusions, and more. 

Building Center   -  The "Building Center" is a time when many acquired skills come into action: fine motor, counting, balance, creating a structure, and many more. This center will help students to think, talk, and problem solve together.

Floor Time - The time that students share at "Floor Time" is one that helps develop and build friendships. They interact as a group while learning to take turns and share.

Technology -  Students in our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten class enjoy "Technology" through basic, age appropriate computer programs to reinforce phonics and math and writing skills. 

Enrichment Rooms -  Students are given the choice to participate in all of our enrichment rooms.  A daily schedule is kept to assure that everyone has had the opportunity to participate in these enrichment rooms during the week:   Library Room , Art Room, Gym/Multipurpose Room

  *Outdoor Playground , Sand Area , Organic Dirt Box Area and Front Yard Garden are available for large group and small group extended learning activities daily.
